We're Hiring: Part-Time Equestrian Groom
Flintwood Equestrian · Strathaven, South Lanarkshire
Do you enjoy working with horses and take pride in looking after them properly?
Flintwood Equestrian is recruiting a part-time groom to help care for our assisted-livery horses and keep the yard running smoothly. There is one position currently open.
We are a small, welfare-first, geldings-only livery yard where good horse care, reliable routines and attention to detail matter. We're looking for someone dependable and practical, confident around horses and happy to get involved in everyday yard life.
Part-Time Groom
Help bring horses in, give evening feeds and settle the yard for the night. Weekend shift opportunities available.
Monday to Friday, 5:00 pm–8:00 pm · 15 hours per week
Three hours each evening, helping with bringing horses in, evening feeds and care, and making sure everything is settled for the night. There is also the opportunity to pick up additional weekend shifts by agreement. This position is ideally suited to someone in their later years of school, although applications are welcome from anyone with suitable experience and availability. Applicants must have reached the minimum school-leaving age. Additional paid hours will also be available for holiday cover, by agreement.
What You'll Be Doing
This position involves hands-on horse care and general yard work. Duties include:
- Turning horses out and bringing them in, following their individual routines
- Changing rugs, grooming and picking out feet, keeping horses clean and comfortable
- Preparing and giving feeds as instructed, providing hay or haylage, and checking and replenishing water
- Mucking out and maintaining beds, cleaning buckets and keeping stables tidy
- General yard duties, including sweeping, tidying and keeping working areas clean and safe
- Checking horses' wellbeing and promptly reporting any concerns about their health, behaviour or condition
The balance of duties will depend on the shift and the horses' needs that day.
Who We're Looking For
You should have practical experience handling and caring for horses — whether through your own horses, previous yard work, volunteering or equestrian studies. Formal qualifications are not essential, but confidence with everyday horse handling and a sensible, safety-conscious approach are important.
We're looking for someone who is reliable, punctual and calm around horses, follows instructions carefully, and takes pride in completing jobs properly. You should be comfortable with the practical, outdoor nature of yard work throughout the year and able to get to the yard reliably for your agreed shifts.
Above all, you should genuinely care about horse welfare and understand that the everyday details make a difference.
